Subject:
Big Al Tender Pork Cracklins
Al gets a gift of "Big Al Tender Pork Cracklins" from Dave the guitarist for Yolk, who opened the show. The cracklin seems to reappear dury this recording. The playing is great as is most of the recording. But that cracklin sound does take away from the enjoyment. It appears early as distortion in the bass, and makes itself known during Sens Dep Bank. It's more frequent in Time Ed and then seems to die slowly. I've only listened once, and I was in the other room doing artwork, so I wasn't completely focused on the sound, so it could be worse than I realized. Unfortunate for such a good show.
Right out of the blocks Brent Black, Moth, & Punchline rock! Crypt En>The Other One>Crypt En>Sensory Dep great as well. I only lasted 3 minutes into the Blister encore. I turned it off and my girlfriends immediate comment was that "I had a high tolerance for pain", and she's a big fan. You decide.
I'm going to give it a 4 anyway. The first set I didn't hear that cracklin, and it's still listenable, even at it's worst. After repeated listenings I may be back to revise my review, but for now that's it.
Thanks again archive!

So Close To A Five Star Rating
Don't get me wrong this is a DAMN good show, the second set is just ridiculous (Cryptical>Other One>Cryptical>Sensory Dep Bank...WHHHHAATTTT????). But unfortunately there is this annoying crackling throughout most of the show and it really hurts the sound quality, i even downloaded the looseless version. 5 stars on the show but a 4, maybe even a 3 on the sound.

WOW!
This and Memphis 10.2.98 have got to be the two best "sleeper" shows of '98! A few warts throughout, but a great example of moe at their best. Check out the Cryptical>Other One>Cryptical in the second set, one of the best the band has performed. Thank you Mik & K. C. for posting this one!
